VOLUNTEERS

We rely on our wonderful volunteers to operate the museum. We are always looking for help in the following categories: Docents, Tour Guides, Event Coordinator & Crew Members, Property Maintenance, Gardening, Office Work, Research, and Archaeology.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Docent:  A person who welcomes people to the house and tells the story of it’s history and architecture.  Individual schedules are arranged according to a person’s availability.

Summer hours are Thursdays 1-3 pm  every week between Memorial Day and Labor Day

The house is open on occasion in the spring and fall with hours to be determined.

Tour Guides: Person or persons to assist the docent on duty.

To help host special events, educational programs and group tours.

Duties will vary but tour guides will interact with the public.

Event Coordinator & Crew Members: Persons who can help plan and coordinate special events and educational programs.

Duties will include setup, helping with the event or program and clean-up.

Property Maintenance: There will be periodic application of log protective treatments, paint touch up and general

upkeep of the house.

Gardening: Plans are in the works for a fence and garden which will require help with the planting and maintenance.

Office Work: Help will be needed with clerical work, online activity, social networks, correspondence and the museum shop. 

Research: There is still much to discover about the history of the house, the island, local maritime history and the details of how people lived in this period.  Work can be done online or at libraries, courthouses, etc.

Archaeology: Hands on help at the original site with a qualified archaeologist.

Help with cataloging and identifying artifacts collected from the site and the house.
